24 hours of solar power!
Imagine if a solar power installation could produce electricity 24/7! This week at our research installation in Tromsø, Norway we had 24 hours of continuous production, taking advantage of the midnight sun!
At one of Posten Norway’s distribution centers, we have commissioned a research installation with 14 Over Easy’s patent pending LM-01 VPV units, giving high energy yields when the sun is low on the horizon. Through our vertical.solar project we collect performance data from VPV installations in different climates. This autumn we will have 6 installations from Tromsø (Norway) in the north to Valencia (Spain) in the south giving us unique data for planning future projects.
Data from the first days of operation shows that the energy production for this orientation (close to east-west) gives high production from around 06:00 in the morning until 14:00 in the afternoon, with a second peak from 17:00 to 22:00 in the afternoon and evening. The sun goes low on the horizon during the night, but the production never actually stops! This is midnight sun, and with the Over Easy VPV-units we get the most out of it.
