VPV (Vertical PV) in winter conditions, Oslo Norway

Many of our customers ask how vertical solar panels work during the wintertime. Over the last two weeks, we’ve had some nice winter weather in Oslo that beautifully demonstrates how this works.
From the data we share in the graph here, we can make some interesting observations:
1-5 December: Cloudy winter weather. Under these conditions vertical solar installations give almost the same yield as a conventional flat roof 10-degree tilt installation.
6-12 December: Sunny days with little or no snow cover. Under these conditions, the yield of vertical bifacial can be very good. For these days, the VPV yield is about 450% higher than the conventional installation.
13-18 December: Snow showers with some sun in between. The vertical solar installation gives good yields while the conventional installation is quickly covered with snow and “light’s out”.

We are excited to go into our first winter, now with several operational research installations with different climates and/or configurations. We will certainly learn a lot!
