Green roof solar on a logistics building from ASKO

We are excited to announce that we have another installation up and running in Norway.

For ten years, ASKO and NorgesGruppen have been bringing solar energy to rooftops all over Norway. Their strong focus on sustainability has made them an important player in this area. Now, they are taking a big step forward with new technology for flat and green rooftops. As Over Easy Solar, we are proud to join them in this exciting journey.

Installers with green roof solar installation

In early 2022, Over Easy Solar installed the first vertical pilot on ASKO'S rooftop, in a project financed by Innovation Norway. This project was a landmark project as the first vertical solar on a commercial rooftop in Norway. This vertical orientation of the Over Easy solution captures the sunlight from dawn to dusk, and gives higher yields in morning, afternoon and winter. Our pilot projects have shown that vertical solar panels outshine traditional flat roof solutions in terms of energy yield, with up to 20-30% higher specific yield.

Later the same year, we completed a second installation with ASKO, strengthing ASKO's role as a leader in solar innovation. Drone shots and images from ASKO'S rooftops have been featured in PV Magazine Global and on a video with millions of views on YouTube.

Sedum and Vertical PV Units: Green Roof Solar

Now, ASKO and NorgesGruppen are advancing sustainable rooftops with their latest project. How? By blending nature with advanced technology. Sedum from Bergknapp AS adds a green touch, with solar panels on top.

And this is where Over Easy Solar comes in. Our vertical PV units integrate smoothly with the sedum, forming a harmonious rooftop ecosystem. The panels produce clean electricity while preserving the green look of the rooftop. It's a win-win for both sustainability and aesthetics. Green roofs provide many benefits, such as supporting biodiversity, improving water retention and lowering energy costs. Furthermore, the green roof itself benefits from the partial shading by the panels which helps its longevity, on the other hand the panels also benefit from the cooling effect by the green roof and therefore operate more efficiently.

Norway's Solar Energy Landscape

Norway’s commitment to renewable energy is evident. Already, hydro and wind power account for over 98 percent of electricity production in the country. Between January 2023 and early June 2023, Norway added 101 MW of new solar PV capacity, bringing the country’s total installed solar PV capacity to 459 MW as of June 2023. Despite its small role in Norway’s energy landscape, solar power holds significant growth potential. With government support and integration into existing renewable sources, it contributes valuably to the country’s transition toward a low-emissions society.

In conclusion, ASKO, NorgesGruppen, and Over Easy Solar are creating a new chapter for Norway's clean energy. We thank CRS Elektro AS for managing the electrical installation. This project demonstrates that business partnerships and collaborations can work together with innovative technology to produce clean and sustainable energy.
